For sale is this promotional mug issued by Akzo Nobel for MacCann & Byrne Ltd (Athboy, County Meath) to promote their line of BROXO salt for water softeners. This scarce mug was made by Carrigaline Pottery of County Cork about the late 1970s.

Broxo is an AKZO NOBEL brand name for their range of water-softening salts.

The Carrigaline Pottery Company Ltd was established in 1928 by by Hoddie Roberts (1878-1952) and since then has changed ownership and name a number of times.

1928 - 1980 Carrigaline Pottery Ltd (Hoddie Roberts).

1980 - 1983 Cork Art Pottery (Lutz Kiel).

1983 - 1990 Carrigdhoun Pottery Co-Operative Society Ltd (former employees of Cork Art pottery & Carrigaline Pottery).

1990 - 1995 Carrigdhoun Pottery Co-Operative Society Ltd (taken over by Oxford Ceramics - Oxford Porcelanas of Brazil).

1995 - 2003 Carrigdhoun Pottery Co-Operative Society Ltd (taken over by Stephen Pearse after buying up 90% of the shares). Production ceased in June of 2003 and both the company and its sales shop were closed in September of that same year.

Size: about 3 9.16" height x 3 3/16” O.D. excluding the handle (91mm x 82mm).
Material(s): white earthenware.
Finish: printed in 2 colours over the glaze.
Imprint: MADE IN IRELAND BY CARRIGALINE POTTERY
Approximate age: late 1970s.
