Large Vintage Hand Painted Ceramic Vase Sculptural Continental Floral Design 31cm

A wonderfully unusual large vintage ceramic vase with a striking sculptural, almost architectural form.
Its flattened body features graduated stepped sections and pierced geometric handles, creating a fabulous silhouette from every angle. The creamy-white glaze is accented with green and black edging, while the front is beautifully hand-painted with a vivid cobalt-blue flower, soft green foliage and expressive black brushwork.

The vase has a distinctive mid-century modern and continental European feel, although it is unmarked, so its precise maker and country of origin cannot be confirmed. There is a tiny painted flourish beneath the flower which may possibly be an artist’s initial or signature.

A real statement piece, perfect displayed on a mantelpiece, console table, sideboard or shelving. Its exceptionally slim profile also makes it ideal for a narrow space while still creating plenty of visual impact.

Very good vintage decorative condition. There are a few small areas of age-related glaze wear, minor surface marks and natural glaze irregularities, mainly around some of the raised edges. These are subtle, entirely in keeping with the vase’s age and handmade character, and do not detract from its wonderful overall appearance.
