Russian Lacquer Box from The Lucy Maxym Collection
Lacquer boxes are, perhaps, the most exquisite of all Russian art. They are hand painted with almost flawless technique in a tradition that goes back to Peter the Great and can only be described as masterpieces. There are four traditional centres of fabrication of miniature lacquered box and brooch paintings in Russia, which today have become the most famous. They are Fedoskino, Palekh, Mstera and Kholui. They make up a tightly knit family, influencing each other and enriching each other, with each one having its own individual character. Palekh was an old center for painting icons. Its artists ceased to paint icons after the revolution, they started painting miniature boxes instead.
This box is simply exquisite! Hand painted under magnification with egg tempera and 24K gold by one of the well know (and much sought after) Russian artist's of this genre, Abr Kypaxobckar AA, this piece is in an great condition and simply gorgeous. Signed by the artist with 24 karat gold. Precious! From the Lucy Maxym Collection. View MuseumRussianLacquer.com/Lucy-Maxym-Boxes.
