• History of Paper Crests
Following the demise of wax seals on correspondence after the introduction of postage stamps , these die stamped Crests were created to ' announce ' oneself on an envelope or headed paper. They were used by many organisations such as the military , hospitals , sports clubs , trades , royalty and titled families etc , On their correspondence. It became a popular collecting hobby from Victorian times right through to the 1930s , and is especially interesting within the Military Field where many of the old Regiments no longer exist.
The Crests are generally about the size of a Postage stamp and smaller.
