John Betjeman Reads Selected Poetry 1959 LP
Following the success of his Collected Poetry, which was at one time selling a thousand copies a day, Betjeman recorded a selection for an LP release in America. The British rights were swiftly acquired by the British label, Argo, a label initially specialising in "British music played by British artists" that became a label primarily specialising in spoken word recordings. The cover photograph is by Cecil Beaton, the renowned British fashion, portrait and war photographer and sleeve notes by Arthur Luce Klein, the founder and president of Spoken Arts, a pioneering company in the USA in the field of recorded literature.
