Vintage Certina DS 5

Very cool vintage Certina DS-5 Quartz, with a fantastic retro cushion-shaped case and a beautifully clean silver dial.

This is a particularly distinctive Certina design, with the large angular stainless-steel case, stepped inner dial and CERTINA signature incorporated into the lower section of the case. It has a great 1970s/early-1980s aesthetic and wears extremely well on the wrist.

The silver/champagne-toned dial is in very nice condition, with applied baton markers, matching silver hands and a framed date window at 3 o'clock. The combination of the square case and rounded dial architecture gives it loads of vintage character.

The case back carries the classic Certina DS turtle emblem and is marked Super-Waterproof 10 ATM / Super-Shockproof, along with reference 782 2420 41.

The quartz movement is running well and keeping good time, with the date function working correctly.

The case has scratches, marks and general wear consistent with its age, all visible in the photographs. Personally, I think the wear suits this style of watch and gives it plenty of character. The dial presents particularly well.

The caseback states 10 ATM, but water resistance has not been tested and should not be assumed on a vintage watch.
A really interesting vintage Certina and something quite different from the more commonly seen round DS models. The chunky case looks excellent on the wrist while still wearing comfortably.
