StarSense Explorer is a free app for Android and iOS operating systems. It uses the camera and other technology incorporated within the smartphone to align the telescope with the night sky. For this purpose, the telescope requires a special holder with a mirror system.
Once initialized, the app displays the direction in which the telescope is pointing. Using arrows, it directs you to the most beautiful objects (PushTo). In this way, beginners can find their way around, even under a light-polluted city sky.
The StarSense Explorer app also generates a list of currently visible objects to help you select your cosmic destinations: planets, brighter nebulae and galaxies, star clusters and double stars.
While observing, the smartphone does not need network access. It also does not have to be connected to the telescope via a WLAN or Bluetooth.
StarSense Explorer is a family of telescopes developed by Celestron, setting a new direction in the field of convenience and comfort of conducting visual observations of the night sky. The hallmark of this series of instruments is the child's play of finding interesting objects, thanks to the use of smartphones and the user-friendly StarSense Explorer App™ that recognizes the star system through the advanced LISA ( Lost in Space Algorithm ) algorithm, and then searching for currently visible celestial bodies.
StarSense Explorer DX 8" is a high-class, bright Newtonian reflector with an aperture of 8" and a light intensity of f/5.9, collecting over eight hundred times more light than the human eye can register under the same conditions. The excellent optics of this telescope will allow you to enjoy a breathtaking view with very good sharpness, contrast and practically imperceptible chromatic aberration. This instrument is equipped with mirrors made of Pyrex glass, on which an XLT reflective layer and an additional protective coating have been applied.
The set includes a Dobsonian mount. This type of construction is much more user-friendly than heavy equatorial mounts, thanks to which it is an ideal solution for people taking their first steps in conducting visual observations, and also works great in RNAV Spotting, i.e. photographing aircraft at cruising altitudes.
