At 9:10pm on 28th September 1970 Kenneth Kendall interrupted the BBC TV newscast which he was giving to announce an unconfirmed report of the death of President Naser of Egypt. Whitin minutes there was confirmation from Cairo Radio. President Naser was 52

Gamal Abdel Nasser was the son of a Post clerk. He was leader of Egypt for sixteen years. He realised the great propaganda value of stamps and made great use of them to rally his people after the Suez in 1956 and after the six day war in 1967.
