Sterling silver 1938 art deco compact, Barker Brothers, hallmarked

A sterling silver-mounted compact by Barker Brothers.

One of the oldest firms of silversmiths originating from Birmingham. Barker Brothers was established in 1801.

The compact features engine-turned decoration and the engraved monogram BB (presumably for Barker Brothers). It has a few dings to the front.

The mirror is in excellent condition, and the hallmarks are very distinct. The inner tray is marked for nickel silver rather than sterling.

The catch is a bit sticky, and the compact doesn’t always stay shut.

It measures c. 7.5cm by 4.8cm and weighs a hefty 99.5g.
