It reads, "Presented by the employes (Employes is on the plate and an error) by Thompson and Son. Alfred Charles Reilly on the Occasion of his Marraige, Feb 1887" He was shot on McCurtain Street on 9th February 1921. Google his name and dates for a huge amount of information.
A very impressive tray by master silversmiths Martin and Hall, 1887. With foliate and beaded rims, ornate scroll and ribbon decoration, on claw on ball feet. Excellent piece with an amazing hand inscribed design. Look through all the images, there is a black mark in 2 of the later images, a very small piece and hard to notice. 43 cm's Diameter, 3 cm's high. 2188 grams.
