David Andersen Norway. Pair of Sterling Silver Gilt and Guilloche Enamel Toadstool Salt and Pepper Shakers David Andersen Norway. Pair of Sterling Silver Gilt and Guilloche Enamel Toadstool Salt and Pepper Shakers Silver & Metalware

A pair of mid-century Norwegian salt and pepper shakers by David Andersen of Oslo. Each is a bell or “toadstool” form in sterling silver gilt, covered in translucent enamel over an engine-turned (guilloché) radiating pattern. One is soft white and the other is a warm yellow.

Both are hallmarked on the underside of the base with the D-A maker’s mark, NORWAY STERLING and 925S. Both retain their original stoppers. The silver gilt bases have a mellow patina.

Details
• Maker: David-Andersen, Oslo, Norway
• Material: sterling silver (925S), gilt, with guilloché enamel
• Colours: white and yellow
• Height: approx. 50 mm
• Width: approx. 30 mm

Condition
Very good to excellent vintage condition for their age. The enamel is bright and glossy with no cracks, crazing or restoration that I can see. There is one small chip to the enamel on the white shaker, shown close up in the photos. Otherwise there is only light patina and gentle surface wear to the gilt bases. The pepper holes are clear, and both stoppers are original and fit well.

David Andersen enamelled silver is highly collectable. This pair would suit collectors of Scandinavian silver, mid-century design and enamel, or anyone wanting something special for the table or a display cabinet.

Please look carefully at all the photos.
