Burgonet-style 16th c. helmet
Medieval Burgonet-style helmet. Reproduction in metal 16th century close-fitting helmet with hinged cheek guards. H27cm x D28cm x W20cm. Weight 1620g. A Burgonet helmet was worn across Italy, France and Germany. One such type was based on the armour of Guidobaldo della Rovere (1514-1574), Duke of Urbino. Others say the name 'Burgonet' signifies originating in Burgundy. The helmet was also common among the mercenary Swiss infantry, pikemen who could defend themselves against cavalry.
