A very pretty Victorian solid silver bowl, hallmarked Sheffield 1896 and made by James & William Deakin. It is small enough to work as a sugar bowl, bonbon dish or little rose bowl.

James & William Deakin were prominent manufacturers of silver and plate in Sheffield, founded in 1866 by James Deakin.

The bowl is raised on a domed and decorated foot. The body has embossed ribbon-tied swags and tassels above part-fluted lobes. The rim is neatly rolled, and the decoration is crisp and well defined.
