A fine Victorian solid silver cauldron salt, beautifully bright-cut engraved with stylised ferns and floral motifs. The engraving is crisp and well defined, reflecting the high quality of Victorian silver craftsmanship.

The salt is fully hallmarked to the underside for London, 1873, with the maker’s mark of John, Edward, Walter & John Barnard, one of the most respected silversmithing families of the period. Also stamped with the pattern/issue number 941.

The cauldron form sits on a circular foot with a rolled rim, and the interior retains a warm patina.
