Antique Indian brass Planter Pumpkin Lotus Shape

A pumpkin shaped Indian brass planter of wonderful proportions. The unusual shape lends itself to the etchings of dancing deities and floral decoration. A classic piece from the Raj period. 21.5 cm wide x 11 cm high

Similar brass and silver-washed versions continue to be produced for the souvenir and export market. However, the presence of distinct animal figures (like deer on this) and deeply punch-dotted backgrounds indicates a traditional hand-hammered technique typical of older regional styles!!

The object appears to be a vintage or antique engraved brass or copper lotus-style bowl with a scalloped, fluted rim and intricate chased floral and bird motifs, consistent with traditional Indian or Kashmiri metalwork from the mid-20th century or earlier
