Vintage classic restored bike
Fully restored Jim Soens road bike.
Jim Soens was a highly regarded frame builder who had a bike shop in Liverpool from the mid 30s until 1970.
This frame was built by Jim probably some time in the mid 60s and has been repainted in the original colour by the same business (C&G finishes, L'pool) who painted all Jim's frames back in the day.
The paint, lug lining and transfers cost £360 7 years ago.
The frame is Reynolds 531 tubing and a 20" c-c seat tube so would suit someone 5' 3" to 5' 9".
It has Nervex pro lugs and is currently set up as a fast tourer/Audax/clubman type machine.
Wheels are 27" and virtually unridden since being built with Weinmann rims, large flange hubs with Campagnolo cones/bearings and skewers. Tyres are new Continental Sports. There is also a set of gum wall tyres but they are starting to perish.
Randonneur handlebars with Campag brake levers (new copy hoods) and Weinmann center pull brakes.
A super touriste double TA chainset and 5 speed rear freewheel with Suntour bar end shifters.
Front mech is a Campag Record and rear is a Raleigh branded Suntour long cage.
Selcof seatpost and choice of saddle - either the Lycette swallow (c.early 60s) or the Brooks B17 type (approx 1996) - both are in excellent condition.
The buyer can also have a vintage rear rack and set of Campagnolo quill pedals with new unused red leather toe straps.
The bike is ready to ride and could be used in any vintage L'orica type event.
The restoration involved much time and money that included details such as re-painting the Bantel mudguard logo by hand so no daft offers please.
