HD= heavy duty, these are heavy and larger than the usual cordless drills.
They have forward and reverse and 2 set speeds (Hi and Lo) that you dial-in on the knob on the top and a 5 step torque control just in front of the trigger for use when using as screwdriver.

These are for the discerning cabinet maker/installer in need of a simple and accurate boring tool.
I have owned a 7.2 volt version of this since the mid 80s, and still using it. These are built to last
Will come with a new battery in each as the originals have since been mislaid
