The S.S. Anglia was a British passenger steamer launched in 1900 for the London and North Western Railway Company , She originally was an express passenger steamer running between Holyhead and ( Dublin/Kingstown " Dún Laoghaire " ) , She was requisitioned by the Admiralty as an auxiliary hospital ship in WW1. On 17th November , 1915 , while transporting wounded soldiers from Calais to Dover , she struck a mine laid by the German U-boat UC-5 and sank one mile east of Folkestone with the loss of approximately 105 -164 lives.
