Aeonium (Ornamental Succulent)

A beautiful group of architectural succulents known for their distinctive rosettes and wide range of colours, shapes and forms. Aeoniums make excellent feature plants in pots and containers and are particularly popular with succulent collectors.

Unlike many succulents, Aeoniums are winter growers, becoming most active during the cooler months. With good growing conditions, many varieties are also surprisingly fast-growing.

Basic care:

Grow in a bright position with plenty of natural light. Use a very free-draining compost containing approximately 50% grit, and always use a pot with good drainage.

Water more regularly during autumn, winter and spring when the plant is actively growing, allowing the compost to partially dry between waterings. Reduce watering during hot summer weather when Aeoniums may become semi-dormant.

Feed occasionally during the active growing season to encourage healthy growth.

Protect from frost and prolonged temperatures below approximately 5°C. In Ireland, growing Aeoniums in containers allows them to be moved under cover during cold or particularly wet weather.
