Tetrapanax papyrifer (Rice Paper Plant)

A spectacular architectural plant with enormous, deeply lobed leaves that can create an instant tropical or jungle effect. Tetrapanax papyrifer is a fast-growing plant that can quickly develop into a substantial feature, making it ideal for exotic-style gardens.

Very fast-growing once established
Excellent architectural feature plant
Produces clusters of small creamy-white flowers
Can spread by suckering to form a dramatic colony
Eventual height: 3–5 metres

Best grown in a sunny or partially shaded, sheltered position in fertile, well-drained soil. Give it plenty of space to develop. The top growth may be damaged by severe frost, but established plants can regrow strongly from the base.
