Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ (Catmint) is a hardy, long-flowering perennial prized for its soft, relaxed look and exceptional reliability in gardens.
It forms a broad, low mound of aromatic grey-green foliage, with small, slightly fuzzy leaves that release a pleasant minty scent when brushed. From late spring right through to early autumn, it produces masses of slender flower spikes covered in soft lavender-blue blooms. These flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, making it an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly planting.
Despite its name, ‘Walker’s Low’ isn’t particularly low-growing—it typically reaches around 60–90 cm tall and can spread even wider, creating a loose, billowy effect that softens edges of borders and paths. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and once established, it is very drought-tolerant and low-maintenance.
A light trim after the first flush of flowers encourages a second wave of blooms, keeping the plant looking fresh and compact throughout the season. It pairs especially well with roses, ornamental grasses, and Mediterranean-style planting schemes.
