Signed Colour Etching by Cecil Tatton Winter & Edward King of St Clement Danes, London

Beautiful early 20th-century colour etching of St Clement Danes, London, executed by British etcher Cecil Tatton Winter (1895–1954) after an original watercolour by Edward King (1862–1951).

A particularly attractive architectural work, showing St Clement Danes framed by mature trees, with figures and street details providing a wonderful glimpse of historic London.

Importantly, the work is pencil signed by both artists:

It also carries a publisher’s blindstamp at the lower left.

THE ARTISTS

Cecil Tatton Winter (1895–1954) was a British artist and etcher particularly associated with architectural and topographical subjects. His colour etchings include views of London landmarks and historic British architecture.

Edward King (1862–1951) was a British painter and watercolourist whose architectural compositions were reproduced as etchings by Winter for The Museum Galleries.

The combination of King’s detailed architectural compositions with Winter’s accomplished etching technique produced a highly decorative series of British views during the early 20th century.
