A rare opportunity to acquire an original painting by one of Ireland's most distinguished twentieth-century artists. Gabriel Hayes was an acclaimed painter, sculptor and designer whose work forms an important part of Ireland's artistic heritage. She is best known for designing Ireland's iconic decimal bronze coinage introduced in 1971, creating the celebrated sculpture The Three Graces, and producing major public commissions including the monumental limestone reliefs on the Department of Industry & Commerce building on Kildare Street, Dublin. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to Irish art, she was awarded the Oireachtas Gold Medal for Sculpture in 1977.

This painting, Portrait of a Young Boy, is a fine example of Hayes' portrait work and is signed and dated 1949. It was previously selected for inclusion in a James Adam & Sons Fine Art Auction with a catalogue estimate of €2,000–€4,000, in 2020.
