Original Painting , Watercolour by Helen Mulkerns (1996) - Galway Hooker at Sunset
A beautiful original watercolour by the Irish artist Helen Mulkerns (1934–2020) depicting a traditional Galway Hooker sailing boat on calm waters at sunset. The distinctive rust-red brown sails, dark hull, glowing lantern on the mast, seagulls in the sky and a rocky shoreline with a seagull in the foreground create a warm, atmospheric scene. Distant mountains complete this classic view of Ireland’s west coast.Signed and dated lower left: “Helen Mulkerns 1996”. Presented in a solid wooden frame with mount.Helen Mulkerns was a well-respected artist who lived and worked in Dublin. She studied at Dun Laoghaire College of Art under leading Irish painters and taught art for many years at Cabinteely Community School and Sandford Park School in Ranelagh. She exhibited regularly in major Dublin galleries (Oireachtas, United Arts Club, TABS Art Auction, Lions Club, Dun Laoghaire Art Festival) as well as in group shows in New York, Boston and Dallas. She completed important commissions for the Bank of Ireland, hospitals (including Holles Street and the National Children’s Hospital), Bord na Móna and various companies. She held three solo exhibitions in Dublin and her works are held in private collections in Ireland, the USA and Europe. She was also one of the founders of the famous outdoor artists’ exhibition on Merrion Square. The watercolour is in very good condition and ready to hang. An ideal decorative piece for a living room, study or as a gift for lovers of Irish art and maritime scenes.
The photos are not of the best quality because the painting is in a glazed frame and it is very difficult to take good pictures without reflections and glare.
