Elizabeth Whelan. A Pair of Signed Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Etchings

A beautiful matched pair of signed limited-edition hand-embellished etchings by Elizabeth Whelan, both dating from 1987.

Whelan’s work from this period is characterised by extraordinarily intricate fantasy imagery, combining elegant female/fairy figures with flowers, insects, wings and dense organic forms. The flowing lines and decorative female imagery have a strong Art Nouveau influence.

These are particularly attractive examples because they incorporate delicate blue colouring together with gold/gilt hand embellishment, giving the works a subtle metallic quality that catches the light and adds depth to the compositions.

Both works are signed Elizabeth Whelan, dated 1987 and individually numbered from limited editions of 750.

One is numbered 100/750, with the companion numbered 160/750.

The pair is presented in matching gilt frames, which complement the gold detailing within the artworks beautifully. They have clearly been intended to hang together and make a much stronger decorative statement as a pair.
