Early 20th-Century Irish Coastal Watercolour – L. Lawerenson – Provenance Mountshannon, Co. Clare

A beautifully atmospheric early 20th-century Irish coastal watercolour, signed L. Lawerenson, depicting a sweeping sandy shoreline with calm turquoise waters and distant hills.

The style, palette and composition closely resemble early works by Edward Louis Lawerenson RHA (1868–1940), particularly his later coastal views of Kerry. While offered as attributed, the quality and handling are entirely consistent with his early period.

What makes this piece especially compelling is its documented provenance. The original backing shows:
Parcel Post label from Dublin (College Green)
Date stamp: 3 September 1917
Addressed to Mrs S. H. Somers, The Rectory, Mountshannon, Co. Clare
Original King George V postage stamps
Dublin framer’s label from Drury Street.

The Old Rectory in Mountshannon is now being developed as part of the Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience, making this artwork particularly relevant to local history and heritage.

Medium: Watercolour on paper
Signed: Lower right, “L. Lawerenson”
Image size: approx. 15 x 30 cm (visible area)
Frame size: approx. 33 x 46 cm

A rare opportunity to acquire a historically documented Irish watercolour with strong provenance and local Clare connections.
