Probably not. My existing cover has a chip on the top also and it leaks water there. If the chip on your is cover where it meets the Engine Block it will probably leak also.

@clonmoyle1 hi. I have a "plastic" one. It has a slight chip off the edge near the top. The o-ring is broken too, so you would need to use your old seal?
Is that any use to you?

I think the old plastic covers were suceptible to damage/breaking. The newer ones are made of Aluminium.
