Boston Salon Piano (Designed by Steinway)
The Boston GP-178 is a 5-foot-10-inch (178 cm) salon grand piano designed and engineered by Steinway & Sons and manufactured in Japan (by Kawai). Positioned as a mid-sized grand piano, it bridges the gap between mass-produced instruments and handcrafted Steinways by incorporating several of Steinway’s core engineering patents and design choices at a more accessible price point. This piano cost it previous owner over 40,000 new, and has been kept in new condition.
Key Technical Specifications
Wide-Tail Design:
The most distinctive feature of the GP-178 is its wider rear rim. This allows for a larger soundboard area equivalent to a standard 6-foot-2-inch grand piano, giving the 5'10" frame significantly more projection and bass depth than its size suggests.
Soundboard & Rim:
Features a solid, tapered Sitka spruce soundboard for optimal resonance and an 11-layer Hard Rock Maple inner rim to structurally reduce sound absorption.
Action: Built using an all-wood action (maple and hornbeam) rather than carbon fibre composites, paired with Steinway-designed hammers.
Scale Design:
Employs a low-tension scale design combined with a patented duplex scale. This configuration enriches harmonic response and delivers a warmer, more singing sustain.
Comes with free nationwide ground floor delivery, new adjustable matching stool, and is tuned on arrival.
