Writing Desk
Writing Bureau Desk
* Design: The carved and fluted decoration, heavy mouldings, brass drop handles and decorative hinges are characteristic of the Jacobean revival style.
* Purpose: The sloping front should drop down to form the writing surface, with pigeonholes/small compartments behind it. The cupboard doors underneath provide additional storage.
* It has a drop-down/fall-front writing surface
* Inside are multiple pigeonholes/letter compartments, along with a long storage shelf.
* The interior has a lovely traditional fitted writing compartment, which is characteristic of older writing bureaus.
* The construction and hardware suggest it is older rather than a modern reproduction, but I can’t reliably give an exact date from this photograph alone.
* There appears to be some age-related wear and surface marks, but overall it looks quite attractive and usable.
