Mid Century Vintage G Plan Sideboard

A rare vintage teak sideboard from G Plan designed by Richard Young as part of the Group 3 Range dating from circa 1962.

Richard Young designed a small number of pieces for G Plan in the early sixties, his pieces exhibited a very minimalist design style which was considered a bit too modern and advanced for a more conservative market in the early 60’s. On reflection, I think he was probably just ahead of his time and his designs more than stand the test of time. Richard Young is best known for his later designs for Merrow Associates.

Simple streamlined design with a bank of four drawers on the left with solid Afromosia finger pull handles, the top is drawer lined and divided for cutlery storage. The two cupboards each have internal fixed shelving fronted with two sliding doors.

Presented in excellent condition commensurate with its age and previous use, the sideboard has been cleaned and refinished.

This design is now considered a collectors piece and viewing is recommended to appreciate its true beauty.
