Edwardian inlaid writing desk& carved chair
An exceptional piece of late 19th-century / early 20th-century craftsmanship. This elegant Edwardian Bonheur du Jour (ladies' writing desk or correspondence table) is constructed from a beautifully grained rosewood [or mahogany], enriched with highly detailed satinwood stringing and geometric boxwood inlays along the drawer front, legs, and borders.
The upper superstructure features two delicate glazed (glass-door) side cabinets perfect for display or letter storage, flanking a central open cubby with its original mirrored back. Below, a smooth writing surface sits over a wide, single central drawer fitted with its original brass drop handles. The desk stands on striking square, tapered legs terminating in its original brass castors, allowing it to be moved with ease.
Stunning 19th century solid walnut balloon back shape framed ,sweeping curved legs.The top creast rail is intricately hand carved with heraldic motifs,including a shield,crest,cross emblem surrounded by leaves and scrollwork .
