What is the Alcoscan AL6000 Breathalyser?

The Alcoscan AL6000 is a hand held, portable breath alcohol tester to check the breath alcohol concentration to a very high accuracy. This is the same unit as used by the NHS and police throughout the Country. This unit is unique in that it also contains a specially Pre-calibrated Alcohol Sensor Module that eliminates completely the need for regular send away re-calibration - a standard requirement for virtually all other professional breathalysers. When replacement is needed the sensor is a simple plug-in unit - see photo below.

How accurate is this breathalyser?

This breathalyser is extremely accurate and is used by police and security forces throughout the world and we supply this exact same unit to the NHS. The Alcoscan AL6000 meets all UK, European and US standards and has CE and FDA approval. It has also been fully approved for use by the US Department of Transportation (DOT).

Does this breathalyser give results suitable for the new Scottish drink drive limit?

Yes it does. The results will be displayed in mg/L so you will be able to see if you are over the limit in Scotland or the rest of the UK. The new Scottish drink drive limit is now 0.20mg/L and for the rest of the UK the limit is still 0.35mg/L.

What about the other cheap Breathalysers advertised on ebay?

Quite frankly they are of little use as they are highly inaccurate (if they even work at all!!) and should never be used to determine alcohol levels in an individual - we should know as we have tried and tested them all!! Some of the cheap testers sold on ebay even claim CE approval which is actually a fabrication as the cheap key-ring type breath testers cannot be CE approved. Others may also claim to supply the NHS but if you click on the NHS catalogue link above and search "alcohol tests" in the box at the top, then all the NHS suppliers of alcohol tests will be displayed under "brand" at the top of the page. You will see us (Home Health UK) but you will struggle to find many other eBay sellers - we could not find any!!

How easy is the Alcoscan AL6000 to use?

Because the breathalyser is self-calibrating you simply turn on and blow into the unit. This breathalyser will show the exact alcohol concentration to 2 decimal places from 0.00mg/L (zero alcohol concentration) to 2.00mg/L (coma level alcohol concentration). The unit will show accurately if you exceed the UK legal driving alcohol limit (0.35mg/L). Accordingly if your result is 0.34mg/L then you could still drive legally in the UK.

What is the safe alcohol level?

There isn't one. If you intend to drive or operate machinery then you should not drink.

Who is this breathalyser suitable for?

It is ideal for all those persons wishing to accurately test an individual for the level of alcohol before allowing that person to drive or operate machinery. This could be the individual themselves, an employer, security or police forces, medical professionals etc.
