JOE TIERNAN is a freelance journalist. He was educated at University College, Dublin, and Trinity College. He started his journalistic career in print journalism and worked as a reporter for four years with the provincial newspapers. In the 1980s he moved to RTE and worked for five years as a researcher with the current affairs flagship programme Today Tonight. In the early 1990s he spent two years researching the Dublin and Monaghan bombings documentary for Yorkshire Television and was the first journalist in Ireland or Britain to break the story. He has also worked for the BBC, Channel 4 and Canadian Television. He is married with one son.
