.
For sale is a very large size promotional button badge issued in conjunction with the Safeway supermarkets TV advert campaigns of the 1990s. This badge features Harry (then aged 4) and Molly (then aged 3). The Safeway TV adverts ran from 1993 until 1999, with Molly introduced in 1996. The aim of the TV adverts was to build the Safeway brand as a family-friendly place to shop.
WHEN HARRY MET MOLLY was part of a very successful 1990s TV campaign devised by media agency Bates Dorland. The TV adverts ran until 1999 and featured four year-old ‘Harry’ with voiceovers by the actor Martin Clunes. In 1996 Molly was introduced into the campaign, hence the strapline “When Harry met Molly”. Harry and Molly became the most recognised and adored toddlers in TV advertising during the latter half of the 1990s.
Safeway was a chain of UK supermarkets and convenience shops established in 1962 and ceased as an independent brand when they were bought over by Morrisons in March 2004. By end of 2005 all Safeway shops had been rebranded as Morrisons and the remainder sold off. The Safeway name and logo was revived by Morrisons in 2016 for some of their own items distribution through UK independent retailers.
