Vintage Virgin Mary of Kazan Icon

This is a vintage handmade copy of a Byzantine icon of Virgin Mary of Kazan.

Made in Poland by Veritas. Manufactured using a special metal alloy, with a serigraphy that hasremained unchanged over time, created according to the Byzantine art of iconography. Quality piece. It has the original label attached to it from Veritas with the artists name E. Litwinowicz.

The company name Veritas holds a unique place in the history of 20th-century Polish religious art and trade.

During the post-WWII Polish People's Republic (PRL) era, private religious businesses were tightly restricted or outright nationalized by the communist state. To manage the creation and distribution of devotional items (dewocjonalia), specialized pro-Catholic cooperatives and trade networks were permitted to operate under state observation.

Veritas functioned as an authorized association that managed art studios, publishing houses, and retail shops. It provided a structured way for independent craftsmen, painters, and silversmiths to officially sell high-quality liturgical objects, silver medallions, and hand-painted or reproduced icons to churches and the public.

In good vintage condition. Gilded metal on wooden frame.
