Vintage Obsolete An Garda Siochana Uniform Tunic & Greatcoat Set

A genuine piece of Irish social and law enforcement history. This vintage, obsolete uniform tunic jacket and heavy wool winter Greatcoat (overcoat) originally belonged to my uncle, who served as a member of An Garda Siochana.

This uniform is obsolete and is being sold strictly as a historical/collectors' item. Not for use as an operational Garda uniform, impersonation, or representing oneself as a member of An Garda Síochána. It's not suitable for wear. Display only.

Historical & Design Context:
This uniform combination dates from the classic mid-to-late 20th-century era of Irish policing. The shorter service tunic prominently features the official chrome Garda crest buttons, blue felt collar patches adorned with embroidered silver stars, and its original metal shoulder insignia "C 157".

In the historic Garda routing system, the "C" designation specifically denoted the Dublin Metropolitan Region's Brunswick Street / Pearse Street area division—one of the busiest and most historic policing sectors in Ireland.

The accompanying double-breasted winter Greatcoat is tailored from incredibly dense, heavy-duty dark navy wool designed for foot beats in harsh winter weather. It features a complete set of chrome Garda buttons on the front closure and shoulder epaulets.

This style of uniform was completely retired in 1987 when the force modernized its attire, shifting from this traditional dark blue wool fabric and silver insignia to a lighter blue cloth with gold badges.

Condition:
Both garments are in good, solid vintage condition with no major damage. The fabric holds its shape remarkably well, the stitching is sound, and all insignia are original and untouched.
