The Mayflower was a famous 17th-century English merchant ship that, in 1620, transported over 100 English Separatists, known as Pilgrims, from Plymouth, England, to the New World in America. The perilous journey led to the passengers establishing the Plymouth Colony in what is now Massachusetts, where they created the Mayflower Compact, the first written framework of government in the United States.
