Vintage Icon of St Brendan the Navigator. Mint Condition. 30cm high by 22cm wide.
The Name: Written in stylized Celtic lettering on the upper right, it reads Naomh Breandán, which translates from Irish to "Saint Brendan".
The Boat and Oar: He is shown stepping out of a traditional wooden-framed vessel, referencing his legendary seven-year sea voyage across the Atlantic in a leather-hulled boat (currach) in search of the "Isle of the Blessed".
The Book: Held in his right hand, the decorated book symbolizes the Holy Scriptures and his role as a missionary abbot.
The Attire: He is wearing a monastic habit and a red cloak, complete with a Celtic-style high cross necklace around his neck.
