Vintage 1950s HMV (His Master's Voice) Portable Valve Radio – Original Attic Find (Irish Dial) Classic mid-1950s HMV (His Master's Voice) portable radio.

Features the iconic "His Master's Voice" logo on the front and a unique vintage glass tuning dial that explicitly lists historic Irish and European stations, including "Dublin" and "Athlone".

Built during the transition era of audio engineering, featuring a carrying handle and space for dry-cell batteries, representing the dawn of modern "on-the-go" listening representing the golden twilight of vacuum tube (valve) technology before everything permanently shifted to tiny microchip transistors.

Condition: Selling strictly "As-Is" as an original, unrestored attic find. It has surface wear from decades of storage. Technical Note: Untested. HMV stands for "His Master’s Voice" .The name comes from a famous 1898 painting by English artist Francis Barraud . The painting features a Jack Russell Terrier dog named Nipper looking into the horn of a vintage gramophone.

Barraud noticed that the dog listened intently, seemingly confused, trying to figure out where his late owner's voice was coming from.

The company bought the painting, adopted the name, and the iconic image of the dog looking into the speaker horn became one of the most famous and recognizable corporate logos in history. You can actually see the cursive logo of the words "His Master's Voice" prominently displayed on the bottom-left front of the radio.
