Traditionally Kayseri rugs originated in the town of Kayseri, located in central Anatolia Turkey. This gave Kayseri’s their name and where they are hand woven. They typically have a cotton foundation with a wool pile and natural root dyes are used to obtain their colours. Red is often used because it is thought to symbolise wealth and nobility, which has led to this colour being used a lot in both small and large amounts. After the wool is dyed and knotted onto the foundation, it is trimmed short to finish. They are known to come in a range of sizes; however, they don’t tend to get much bigger than this one.
