TIGER TIMS CLUB (children's comic mascot) - a vintage club membership badge (1920s / 1930s)

For sale is a vintage membership badge issued on behalf of the TIGER TIM'S CLUB. Tiger Tim was the club's mascot and is featured on this badge, he is also the main character of the Tiger Tim Weekly children's comic.

Tiger Tim was a cartoon character developed by Herbert Sydney Foxwell (1890-1943) along with all Tim's friends, collectively known as the Bruin Boys. Tiger Tim made his first appearance in the children’s comic Playbox during February 1914 (published 1909 to 1959) and he proved so popular that he was given his own comic series, the Tiger Tim Weekly. The weekly comic cost 2d (2 pence) an issue and ran continuously from January 1920 until May 1940, when wartime restrictions prevented its further publication. There were also Tiger Tim annuals issued between 1921 and into the 1950’s. After the war, Tiger Tim’s cartoon character reappeared in the 'Rainbow' until that publication ceased in 1959. Such was his popularity, he was revived once more in the ‘Jack & Jill’, published from 1954 to 1985.

Incidentally, Tiger Tim was the one of the longest surviving regular comic characters until his final appearance in the ‘Jack & Jill’ 1985.

CONDITION:
Very good condition. No damage. Pin in working order. Some wear to the gilt plating.
