For sale is a scarce big-band fan club membership badge that I believe was issued for the TED HEATH CLUB. Many big-bands and jazz orchestras had their own followers who formed their own fan cubs and appreciation societies.

Ted Heath (1902-1969) was born into a musical family and whose father was a trumpeter. Ted started out playing the tenor horn and from the age of 14 had adopted the trombone as his favourite and best played musical instrument. This badge features an image of a trombone. Ted's big break came when his musical talents were spotted by Jack Hylton (of The Jack Hylton Band) and from there Ted's career as a professional musician took off. Influenced by Glenn Miller and his USAAF Orchestera, Ted had formed his own band in 1944, the Ted Heath Band. By the end of the 1940's, Ted's band was nationally renowned and during the 1950's would go on to become internationally famous, especially in the United States from 1956.

Ted's music was prolific and with with his band had recorded over 100 albums, selling some 20 million copies mainly on the Decca record label. After Ted died in 1969 his band continued to play, employing many members of the pre-1969 players. Under the direction of trombonist Don Lusher, they continued to record new music and tour until their final concert at the Royal Festival Hall in December 2000.
