For sale is a scarce and early membership badge of the SUSSEX WEAVERS GUILD.

The Sussex Weavers Guild is still active and is an association, or club, for weavers and related crafts such as dyeing and spinning. The Guild provides a meeting venue for those practising the relevant crafts or just interested and wanting to learn more. The Guild also organise craft shows and workshops. Membership is by annual subscription and payment of a fee per meeting attended.

The aims of the Guild are to promote the crafts of weaving, spinning and dyeing through exchange of ideas, networking, education and improving excellence in craftsmanship skills. The Sussex Weavers Guild was one of many regional guilds throughout Britain and would have been an affiliated member of the Association of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers (established 1955).

This badge displays the heraldic emblem of the County of Sussex, a shield showing six gold martlets on a blue background.

DESCRIPTION:
Size: 11/16” x 1 ¼” (17mm x 32mm).
Material(s): Brass metal with 2 vitreous enamels.
Finish: Gilt.
Fitting: Pin & two hoops.
Imprint: None. But probably by Manhattan Windsor Ltd of Birmingham.
Approximate age: c.1968 to early 1970's.

CONDITION:
Excellent. No damage. Pin tight and in working order.
