Stunning Pair of Antique Highly Detailed Rococo/Late Baroque Solid Cast Brass Round Mirror Frames with Cherubs Head, Satyr, Flowers and Foliage, One with Mirror and One Without Mirror, Circa 19th Century

I’m still working on downsizing my collectables, since moving house, and have moved onto some random items that don’t fit neatly into any of my collections especially since our new house has a modern/mid century style.

For sale here is a Stunning Pair of Antique Highly Detailed Rococo/Late Baroque Solid Cast Brass Round Mirror Frames with Cherubs Head, Satyr, Flowers and Foliage, One with Mirror and One Without Mirror, Circa 19th Century

These are exquisite and rare pieces, but as most of my collectables post-date the Georgian Revival period and even the Art Nouveau period, these pieces are outliers in my aesthetic. As the gun is to my head to downsize, I will let these pieces go, hopefully to a collector of either brass items or a Georgian period collector.

I am selling these as a pair, as the casting is exactly the same, but they were purchased separately. One is in a plain brass casting, and the other is cast brass with a gilded finish.

The one with the gilded finish no longer has a mirror, as I dropped it some time ago, long enough ago for the 7 years bad luck to be over!!! I saved the glass, but I cannot locate it, after our house move. This piece has a provenance back to a Georgian House on North Great Georges Street in Dublin, where it was one of a pair that were either side of a fireplace. I only ever had one of the pair, hence my purchase of the closely matching example with the plain brass casting.

The one with the plain brass casting still has it’s original mirror which is in good condition apart from some minor age-related foxing. I don’t have any provenance for this one, but it is of the same era.

The casting features a cherub head at the top and a Satyr Head at the bottom, with Flowers, Foliage cartouches and rococo swags and swirls throughout.

The casting is in very good condition on both with no damage or rough patches of moulding. They could both be polished, or updated to both have either a plain brass or gilded finish, but I will leave these decisions up to the next owner. A replacement mirror can be easily sourced, for the one that is missing.

The Mirrors measure roughly 18 inches/ 47 cm tall by roughly 14 inches/ 37cm at the widest point. The mirror section is roughly 8 inches/20cm in diameter.

Fabulous “Interior Decorators” pieces, perfect for staging a hall, living room or drawing room, especially one with a Georgian or Victorian aesthetic.

I can only find one example of this particular cast Mirror online, and it’s £165 sterling, not including customs and shipping, so grab a bargain here now. See the last photo.

The price is for the pair, but I can separate them as they were not originally a pair with the same provenance. They are cheaper if bought together though.
