For sale is a scarce commemorative metal and enamel plaque issued in 1996 for the Golden Jubilee of St. Mary's Drumcar foundation in 1946. This plaque shows the Saint John of God Brothers emblem along with the text ST. MARY'S DRUMCAR GOLDEN JUBILEE 1946 1996. Drumcar is a village not far from Ardee in County Louth, Ireland.
St. Mary's Drumcar was established in 1946 by the Saint John of God Brothers when Brother Benignus Callan purchased Drumcar House. The Drumcar House estate was to be used for the "Care of Severely Handicapped Boys" and on 1st July 1946, the first community of 3 Brothers arrived. The house was named "St Mary's Drumcar" and officially opened in June 1948 by the then Minister for Health Dr Noel Brown.
