For sale is a membership badge of the ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING (RCN). The RCN is a UK registered trades union catering for members of the nursing professions that include all forms of nurses, midwives, student nurses and nursing support workers.
Historical timeline of the RCN:
1916 RCN founded as the College of Nursing Ltd.
1926 Queen Mary, wife of King George V, became the official patron of the College of Nursing and remained so until her death in 1953.
1929 The College granted a Royal Charter but because the application was opposed by other nursing organisations, the College was not allowed to use the 'Royal' in its title until 1939.
1939 Named changed to the Royal College of Nursing.
1953 Queen Elizabeth II becomes patron of the RCN.
1960 Men were first admitted as members of the RCN.
1963 An international department of the RCN is opened and overseas members admitted.
1968 Student nurses now eligible to become full members of the RCN. Princess Margaret becomes joint-patrol of the RCN.
1976 The RCN registers as a trades union.
1984 The RCN linked hands logo designed introduced. This was designed by David Hillman (b.1944).
1987 The first degree courses offered by the RCN Institute for Advanced Nursing Education.
2011 Health Care Assistants first admitted as members of the RCN.

Very good condition. No damage. Pin in working order. Badge actually looks better than in the photos!
