For sale is a sweetheart badge of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. This badge probably dates to the Second World War period (1939-1945).

The Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC) was a logistics, supply and repairs service corps of the British Army. The RAOC was founded in 1918 and in 1993 amalgamated with four other British Army Corps* to become part of the Royal Logistics Corps.

* Royal Corps of Transport, Royal Pioneer Corps, Army Catering Corps and the Royal Engineers Postal Courier Service.

Sweetheart badges were unofficial and privately made badges for public sale. These would usually be purchased by members of the armed forces and presented to their ‘loved’ ones as a keepsake while away on active service. Sweetheart badges first became popular during WW1 and again during WW2.

Size: about 3/4" x 1 15/16" (20mm x 24mm).
Material(s): Brass metal with 2 vitreous enamels.
Finish: Gilt.
Fitting: Pin.
Imprint: None.
Approximate age: WW2 period (early 1940's)

Excellent condition. No damage. Pin tight and in good working order.
