Rare Medieval / Byzantine Bronze Encolpion Cross - Prominent Circular Medallions
An exceptional and highly collectible piece of early medieval history.
This is a bronze encolpion (reliquary cross) single valve featuring large, prominent circular medallions at the extremities.
Dates back to circa 11th - 13th Century AD.
Features:Superb structural preservation with NO cracks or major structural damage.
Very clear iconography: The central area displays a stylized depiction of a religious figure (likely Christ or the Virgin Mary), surrounded by three well-defined busts of saints/evangelists in the circular medallions.
Gorgeous, stable deep green malachite patina, highly desirable for ancient bronze collectors.
The original bottom hinge/suspension loop mechanism is fully intact and unbroken.
The reverse side features a very clean, deep hollow cavity where the holy relic was originally housed.
A beautiful and authentic example of early Christian / Byzantine provincial metalwork. 100% genuine original, completely untouched and uncleaned.
