Rare 1891 Blakely Police Nippers/Handcuffs

Description

A rare pair of Blakely’s Police Nippers. Patented by John Blakely on August 4, 1891, these are among the most famous and recognizable Victorian-era police come-along restraints in American law enforcement history.

Unlike standard double-cuffs, these single-wrist "nippers" were carried by officers for quick control and transport. This model features the iconic double-loop "S-frame" design with an open-curved top grip for the officer and a hinged bottom jaw for the suspect's wrist.

Design & Features

The Frame: Steel construction, originally finished with nickel plating , leaving an exposed dark patina).

The Handle: An open, rigid upper loop designed to fit the officer's hand/fingers for maximum control and leverage.

The Jaws: A hinged, single-wrist clamping mechanism connected to the handle. Squeezing or twisting the handle tightens the hinged jaw around a suspect's wrist for rapid compliance.
