R.D. Sherrin (D.A. Niel) Pair of Original Gouaches - Lands End & Kynance Rocks, Cornwall
DON’T FORGET TO LOOK AT MY OTHER ADS!
A matching pair of original gouache paintings of the Cornish coast by D.A. Niel, a pseudonym of the Devon and Cornwall painter Reginald Daniel Sherrin (1891–1971).
"Lands End, Cornwall": the great granite cliffs above a churning Atlantic, with gulls on the headland.
"Kynance Rocks, Cornwall": green cliffs dropping to a sandy cove and turquoise sea, with the famous rock stacks offshore.
Sherrin came from a family of painters: his father Daniel and grandfather John were both artists. He was a painting companion of F.J. Widgery, often joining him on his Dartmoor excursions, and his gouache coastal and moorland scenes show Widgery's strong influence. His pictures sold so readily that he never needed to exhibit.
The pair have been together since they were framed. Both are in matching beaded gilt frames with gold mounts and printed titles, and both carry the period label of Hurst & Co.'s Fine Art Warehouse, Belfast.
Each frame approx. 40cm wide x 32cm high.
Condition: frames and glass sound. Both have age spotting to the mounts and wear and small losses to the backing papers. Kynance also has light surface marks in the sky.
